Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were not only one of the most famous couples of the 1950s, but they were also regulars at the Golden Steer Steakhouse. Monroe was a legendary actress, singer, and model, while DiMaggio was a baseball player who was known for his record-breaking 56-game hitting streak.
Despite their busy careers, they fell in love and got married. The two would dine at the Golden Steer in Joe DiMaggio’s booth, always nestled together and enjoying her favorite libation, chilled champagne.
However, their tumultuous marriage was short-lived and they divorced just 274 days later. During their fall out, Marilyn relocated her booth to the one directly in front of Joe’s. It is said that she would bring in her new dates in an effort to make him jealous. It appears her efforts were not in vain as DiMaggio moved his booth into a completely different room, as far away from her as he could get. This move made the baseball player the only iconic patron to hold two booths at the Golden Steer Steakhouse.
Despite the brevity of their marriage, their love story captured the hearts of people around the world, and to this day, Monroe and DiMaggio remain symbols of a bygone era of Hollywood glamour and American sports heroism.
Sad and sweet
